In the garden
Yesterday we went with a friend to beautiful Garvan Gardens. The weather was perfect and the tulips were in bloom. If you live in Arkansas and have never been to Garvan Gardens, what are you waiting for? It is a wonderful place where you can spend a whole day exploring the waterfalls and admiring the beautiful flowers.
I actually saw people working in the gardens with their rakes, and there were tractors at work adding on to the gardens. I guess I never really thought about how much maintenance must go into a place like this. It looks so rugged, so natural, as if everything just was always there.
Today I had to get back to work. I had to train the dogs for their new restricted area, the project we've been working on this week. We installed an underground electric fence. Not only is Sophie known for stealing one shoe, she is a master at escaping from pens. We have a small fenced in area in the back and she will work until she can find a way out. It's fun for her.
Since we live on a major highway, we had to find a solution that would keep her in our yard, yet give her a lot of space to run. The underground fence is going to be perfect for that, I hope.
But it's raining today so not nearly as nice for being outside. Plus my old, creaky body is saying just lay on the couch all day and rest.

You may notice that Milo has on the shirt that had that unfortunate laundry accident. I colored the collar with a brown Sharpie and I think it's going to be just fine.
We not only cover all the trails in the garden, but we take those side roads too. The kids wade in the creeks while I sit on a rock and take pictures. While I was picking up their shoes off one rock a little snake poked his head up through the rock, saw me and quickly disappeared. I had completely forgotten about snakes.

These are great nature shots! I love the tulips!
We go to Garvan Gardens when we visit my Dad in Arkansas. What a lovely place! My boys love the miniature trains, and have you ever seen the gorgeous glass chapel there? We spend way too much time at the pond feeding koi when we go. :) I have never been in early spring. I bet the flowers were amazing. I'm glad you shared such spectacular photos of your fun day!
I love the pictures! I have been there several times, but always to take bridal pictures, or to photograph a wedding. I have never been there to just enjoy it. And that place is huge...it will wear you out!
I would love to go sometime to take the kids....looks like yours enjoyed it. I have wondered if mine would enjoy it, or just whine about being hot and tired.
I've done the Sharpie trick before too!
Looks like a beautiful place to visit. I wish I had that in my backyard... but I am too lazy to be a gardener.
You were down by my old ( SW Ark) neck-of-the-woods! I have never been to Garvan Gardens but have heard many nice things about it. The picture of you and your kids is just beautiful...need to frame that one!
Don't feel alone...I have used a sharpie on a couple of my own clothes and it did fine after a couple of washings!!
sounds marvelous! will have to keep it in mind if I've ever in your area!
I looooove tulips! the ones on my header were in a similar type place in Utah
Well hello. I didn't even know that existed.
I feel like a loser Arkansan.
We did the invisible fence and it rocks!
Hey, you're not old.
oh wait....you're my husband's age. I guess you are. :) haha
(I only tease those I love...kin, ya know?)
lovely picture of the tulips and family! NnnnnIiiiCcccEeee (this is my teeth chattering!!)weather too, I see!
Oh that looks like a fabulous field trip!
And without winter coats!
Good girl on utilizing the brown Sharpie for more than art!!! That's exactly what I would have done, and nobody even notices! High Five!!!!
Those gardens are tres beautiful! And how blessed you are to be able to actually spend more than 5 minutes outside!!!
Today cars and trucks were coming off the low hills in town with 6 inches of snow on them, and it snowed here all morning but never stuck, since we're down in a valley.....
I love to see that spring has arrived in other parts of the country.....thanks for the beautiful pictures!!
Leanne in Longview
oh to be barefoot in a creek.
a sharpie?!
Looks like a great place to visit! I'll have to remember that if I am ever in your neck of the woods!
Looks like so much fun! Great pictures too!
The electric fence has been great for my dog, once she was brave enough to leave the back stoop and realize she wouldn't get shocked!
Great pictures!
